What can Tech Coaching do for you?

We know that new tools arrive on the scene every year and there are new advances in infrastructure which makes integrating technology in the classroom a moving target.

Tech coaching can help teachers navigate these changes. In this session we will explore the ISTE standards for teachers, consider who might fill the role of tech coach, understand what coaching is and is not, and identify the benefits of tech coaching for all involved. Session participants will leave with a vision for showing up first as “coach” to enhance their own work and the work of their

    colleagues.

Enhancing Your Classroom with Digital Ink

Sometimes it is just easier to write or sketch instead of figuring out how to draw boxes in Google Docs, or remembering which extension you need to write an equation. Digital Ink solves these problems and allows teachers to communicate naturally and effectively in the digital classroom. In this session we will look at digital inking tools that you probably didn't know you already had

    Flip Out for Flipgrid!

Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" of short discussion-style questions that students respond to through recorded videos. Each grid is essentially a message board where teachers can pose a question and students can post 90-second video responses that appear in a tiled "grid" display. In recent months, Flipgrid’s premium features have been made FREE for all educators! New interactive and security features have been added as well. Find out how to use this tool effectively to engage students, provide feedback, and encourage growth in your students.

    Blended Learning and Literacy Instruction

With so many applications and online resources, it is often difficult for educators to determine how to effectively incorporate these tools into our instructional practices.

During this session, participants will develop their understandings of how to utilize a blended learning instructional approach to support children’s literacy development. Discover ways children can use digital technologies to investigate, create, and communicate. See how the presenter uses technology to differentiate instruction for a diverse range of students, increase engagement, and enable students to take ownership of their own learning. The presenter will introduce and highlight different technological tools that can enhance literacy instruction, support formative assessment, and

infuse technology in all literacy domains.

You've Got It! Now, Use It!

Instructional technology tools open up a world of learning and experiences for our students, but as teachers, you may feel overwhelmed and anxious about all the resources available to use. If your brain is at maximum capacity for taking in new pieces of tech information or if you are struggling to use tools you currently have, you need a plan, and we are going to make one. We will focus on taking a technology tools inventory (what you have/know) and making a guide for classroom implementation (how you are going to use it). Attendees will leave with an outline for technology integration into the classroom, a personal learning plan, and, hopefully, a sense of relief and

    determination.

Bridging the gap- digital tools to assist ELL students in a content classroom

English Language Learners need our help! As content classroom teachers, it is often hard to be sure that these students understand what is being asked. This results in poor performance and a loss of confidence by the students. We can’t ask all teachers to be masters of language- so why not use technology to bridge the gap? In this session we will be looking at the different tools available to assist in the teaching of ELL students and how using these technologies will improve both their performance and the knowledge of the English language.

    5 Big Apps + 5 Little Apps

= 10 Amazing Classroom Tools and 1 HIGHLY ENGAGED CLASSROOM

2HR SESSION Every teacher is looking for the perfect app. We have the 10 you can use individually or together to make your lessons go from foiled to inspired. We'll investigate Clips, Stop Motion, Chatterpix, BookCreator and more! Come ready to play with your batteries charged. As technology is ever changing, it is important that teachers have the knowledge and skills to prepare their students for the 21st Century. We will give the participants the goal of making a video using at least one “small” app and one “big” app. The theme of their video will be to share ways they use tech in their classroom, and we will share these out via Twitter or Facebook with a hashtag so that participants can come back to them later and see what has been added. The apps that we will introduce in this session are a framework for project-based learning (PBL) with technology. The apps can be used in any setting, for any topic, as they allow students to reflect, express and collaborate. This session will include app stations with tutorials and practical uses for each of the apps. All participants will have hands on activities experiences using the apps and how these can be used in the classrooms.

Calling 911: Protect your Teachers and Students During an Emergency

How prepared is your district to ensure the safety of students and staff when crises strike? Can staff members discreetly raise the alarm when an unidentified individual comes on campus? Increasingly, these issues become IT issues, and school IT leaders need all the help they can get. Instructional Technology Specialist Lance Key was tasked with addressing the issue with Putnam County School System in Tennessee. He turned to HelpAlert.

Learn how this dynamic platform improves campus safety and protects teachers and students in their classroom.

Expert Dan Cooper joins Lance in demonstrating how the pendant-based panic alarm and mass notification solution is designed to save lives by communicating all the critical "where, what, who" information when crises strike.

Don’t Eat the Pictures: Students as Creators, Not Consumers

“I swear, all Junior ever wants to do anymore is get on the Fortnite or watch that YouTube.” Let’s face it: students are immersed in technology and rapidly consume the latest trends that pique their interests. How do we take this love for all things technology and shift it from consumer to creator? How can students learn to innovate with technology without taking a coding or game design class? In this session, participants will learn how to shift the student technology role from consumer to creator within a K-12 classroom. Participants will leave with strategies and tools for classroom implementation.

"Using Concentration (Focus) Grids to Assess Reading and Attention Skills in the Classroom"

By using technology to measure attention, focus grids help teachers, administrators, school personnel, and parents in providing information to improve the student's learning capabilities. This session will compare grid times, measuring attention, and percentiles, measuring reading proficiency. This data will show how grids help assess whether a student's intervention plan should be primarily on reading, or should it be directed more toward the student's attention skills.  These points of emphasis can be difficult to determine. Grids provide valuable information in assessing how to address the student's greatest need on the road to improvement. The grids are also valuable in identifying, and preventing, disciplinary issues.

    5 Big Apps + 5 Little Apps

= 10 Amazing Classroom Tools and 1 HIGHLY ENGAGED CLASSROOM

2HR SESSION CONT'D Every teacher is looking for the perfect app. We have the 10 you can use individually or together to make your lessons go from foiled to inspired. We'll investigate Clips, Stop Motion,

Chatterpix, BookCreator and more! Come ready to play with your batteries charged. As technology is ever changing, it is important that teachers have the knowledge and skills to prepare their students for the 21st

Century.

    Gamifying your Classroom

Have you ever wanted to find a new way to engage your classroom and connect to their inner gamer? Why not try setting up a multi-player classroom (MPC) structure. In an MPC, assignments now become tasks to earn points and tests can become final stage battles. Through the wonders of Paint3D, a program easily downloaded to many Windows 10 computers, students can design their own 3D avatar and create mixed reality videos of their avatar interacting in the real world. As the teacher you can create 3D awards, gear, or weapons for the student to use with their avatar. Come explore the potential of a Multiplayer

How Google organized our (school) Life!

This session will focus on transitioning to a Google Cloud Based system. As our school system has grown and relied more on technologies, the need to move away from a more enterprise/business level platform and focus on tools that will meet our specific needs led us to Google. The G-Suite has allowed us to stream line our online content through our LMS, and make it easier for teachers and students alike to share information. In this session we will share how we started the migration and what is still on our road map to help make our school system as successful as possible.

    Google Expeditions for Augmented Reality

Google presents a new approach to augmented reality (AR) that differs from previous approaches non-targeted AR. And, although uses Google Expeditions as its platform, Expeditions AR brings detailed reality to the classroom, instead of taking students beyond the classroom on new adventures. With AR, the students can walk around an object, look down from above, or up from below. Just launched earlier this year, the scope of Google AR is growing rapidly. This session will provide an update on titles available, and encourage participants to explore all that is there for those who have devices with them.

Data Integration: How to automate the process, maximize the vendor relationship and improve data quality

We will discuss how we must take a business approach to data integration and application manage. We will take a look at how both ClassLink and Clever can take a large district and even a small district and minimize the manual effort of application management. API data integration is now replacing the need for the creation of files, but can also be difficult to manage if you aren't familiar with data standards. We will explore how APIs can make data integration easy, at he same time shed light on data quality issues that may have been long ignored.

Teaching logic and problem solving through coding

The session will focus on how the logic needed to write code translates into everyday lives as well as into the core classroom. Code focuses on procedural thought, teaching a problem solving style in which students have to have a top down view of the problem while also seeing the problem in detail for each of the steps. It teaches children to break their problems down into manageable chunks and solve each smaller problem before compiling it all back together. This skill proves invaluable both in a technical world and in hard math problems and large writing

    assignments.

Digitizing New Teacher Onboarding into District Technology

The onboarding process for newly hired teachers into district technologies is in need of an overhaul. Too often, getting these new hires the information and the know-how they need to access district systems is inefficient and ineffective. It commonly involves too many paper forms, too disorganized a way of tracking progress, and too many gaps remaining in understanding after onboarding. Those inefficiencies only delay teachers getting into the systems they need to get started. By leveraging Thrivist's Curve Learning Management System, Tipton County has made the delivery, tracking and review of technology onboarding training better, faster, and more effective.
