"Tennessee eTales - Digital Storytelling at its Best"  



A Student & Teacher Initiative

Description: In 2010, TETA is looking for original digital stories centered around the theme of "Heroes".   Heroes can be fictional or real-life, public figues or private individuals, superheroes or regular people, someone you know personally or someone imaginary.  Digital stories can be created using a variety of multimedia tools. This is an opportunity to share with Tennessee technology leaders exceptional digital work that students and teachers have produced.

Eligibility: "Tennessee eTales" student & teacher initiative is open to any student or teacher in a K-12 Tennessee school.

General Guidelines: Entrants must be students or teachers in Tennessee schools grades K-12. Only five entries per teacher will be accepted. Single, partner, and team projects will be accepted. Non-English dialogue must be translated with subtitles.

Submission of Entries: Digital stories deadline is April 30, 2010. Entries will be submitted for regional judging by this date. 

Tennessee eTale entries must be created using a QuickTime or Windows Media Player format and submitted by uploaded to the official website listed on the entry form. Emailed entries will not be accepted.

Entry Specifics:

1. Tennessee eTales must not exceed three (3) minutes in length.

2. Tennessee eTales can include the following components:

    Voice-over narration

    Images

    Video

    Music

3. Piece must be self-contained, no plug-in required.

4. Entrants must own and give permission to allow TETA to use anything included in their digital story, other than background music.

5. All participants must complete and sign the Official Entry Form in its entirety. Students/Teachers who have not completely filled out the form will not be eligible. A completed Official Entry Form will confirm that the story is original and that the entrant has all rights necessary to grant TETA permission to use the entry. The Official Entry Form must be mailed to the regional eTales chairperson prior to the April 30 deadline.

Originality: Entries must be the original work of a single student, student partners, or group of students. Teachers may provide technical assistance with younger students, but an adult may not alter, change, or enhance the creative integrity of a students work. Teacher entries must be the original work of the teacher or group of teachers.

Deadline: All entries forms must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2010.  The video must be uploaded by midnight April 30, 2010 as well.

Showcasing and Awards: All submissions will be judged at the regional level and winning entries will be forwarded to the TETA eTales committee for judging at the state level.  Regional winners will receive cash awards and other recognitions.  They will be invited to present their work at  a regional meeting.  Those entries judged to be high quality work will be showcased and recognized at other TETA events. Entries will be judged according to age-appropriate categories and 2 entries from each grade level category will be chosen to compete for additional awards at the state level.  Entries will be judged for originality, creative expression, storytelling centered around a theme, and integration of copy and images. State judging panelists will be members of TETA representing each of the three regional TETA organizations. One teacher per winning entry at the state level will be invited to present at the following TETC with TETA paying registration fees and one night’s lodging.  Teachers entering the competion will compete at the state level only.  There is no theme for teacher entries. The winning teachers entry will also receive an invitation to present at TETC with registration and one night's lodging paid.  

Publication: All eTales entries will have the opportunity to have their work published on the internet and linked to the TETA website - http://www.teta.org/. Applicants must sign a Terms and Agreement form providing publication rights to TETA. Entries will not be returned, but may be viewed on the public site.

 

Rights Associated with Contest: Entrants grant, "Tennessee eTales" A Student & Teacher Initiative, the right to use their names in advertising and promotion without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law. By entering, you are giving TETA the right to publish your work and you have abided by copyright and fair use laws. Participants warrant that their entry is original work and that TETA’s use of the entry will not infringe upon or violate rights of any third party, and grant TETA the right to edit, publish, promote, and otherwise use their entry materials without permission, notice or compensation. No royalties will be paid at this or any other time.
